Supergirl soars to Chicago and C2E2 in 2016!

Every year I look forward to returning to the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2). The folks at Reed Pop have put together a show that keeps growing, featuring the top creators from comics, and stars from movies and television.

(Read my feature on C2E2 2015 for the Chicago RedEye HERE!)

Fans in the Midwest have been spared having to book a flight to the East & West coast cons because they get a chance to rub elbows with the likes of Stan Lee, Kevin Smith, Brian Azzarello and Jill Thompson right here in the Windy City!

In the past, C2E2 has also given fans a chance to interact with the stars of Marvel’s The Avengers , Doctor Who, Orphan Black, Game of Thrones and Agent Carter among many others.

Next year will be no different as today Reed Pop announced that the stars of the hit television show Supergirl, Melissa Benoist (Supergirl/Kara Danvers) and Chyler Leigh (Alex Danvers) will be appearing at C2E2, March 18-20, 2016!

According to Reed Pop, this is the first time they will be attending a convention together to participate in a Panel and Autographing sessions.

Given the tremendous popularity of the show, this is going to be a hot ticket indeed!

Now heading into its seventh year, C2E2 is heralded as “THE pop culture convention in the Midwest.” It’s a chance for the Chicago fanboy/fangirl/cosplay communities to get out and celebrate the films, shows and characters they love!

(I even recorded my 5 on 5 video for Redeye right on the show floor with the mighty Avengers!)

Who won San Diego Comic-Con 2015? Talking about The Force Awakens, Batman V Superman and Grumpy Cat!

On the latest Geek/Countergeek, Keith Conrad and I discuss what went down at San Diego Comic-Con; how Bryan Cranston dropped the mic on a fan; what J.J. Abrams revealed about “The Force Awakens”; and what our reaction was to the new “Batman V Superman” trailer:

Of all the panels that take place at the San Diego Comic-Con, this is one that I love the most. Not just because it includes some of the top names in sci-fi and fantasy (like Sam Witwer and Rod Roddenberry) or good friend Dr. Andrea Letamendi (known as @ArkhamAsylumDoc on Twitter), but also because it’s hosted by Brian Ward of Shout! Factory.

‘Cuz boy, I do love me some gingers:

The debate of Star Trek versus Star Wars is certainly a fun one, don’t you think?

As long as we all agree that Star Wars is better. 😉

(Just kidding.)

(Maybe.)

What did you think about the panel?

This is the darkest timeline…

I’ll never forget the day this happened. To set the scene up: I had been asked by the folks of Wizard World – the convention organizers – to moderate the “Star Trek Captains Reunion” panel at the WW Chicago Comic-Con a couple years ago. It was going to be one of the biggest events I’d ever be a part of at that point in my career as a “geek journo.” The panel included Avery Brooks (Captain Sisko from “Deep Space Nine”), Scott Bakula (Captain Archer on “Enterprise”) and Captain Kirk himself…WILLIAM…EFFING…SHATNER(!)  Now, Shatner had already given me some playful grief backstage, so I guess I should have expected this:

Funny, huh? Thing is, something happened during the panel that kind of paints that whole act of nerd collectible-vandalism in a different light. Something that pretty much goes unnoticed by most if you watch the entire panel on video.

Quite frankly, it was a hard lesson that I learned about dealing with celebrities and interacting with them in these types of scenarios. It was also lesson that I’ll never forget, and that I always keep in mind when I work conventions like C2E2 or Chicago TARDIS.
